Doing the Officer Shuffle
After receiving Veronica’s resignation email, the Executive Committee held an emergency meeting on May 21, 2026 in which they accepted Veronica’s resignation and made two interim officer appointments - Polly Callahan as interim secretary per her request and A J Hodder as interim treasurer. This action ensures continuity in Executive Committee functionality and the GCDC operations. Per the GCDC Bylaws adopted April 17, 2026 by the voting membership, the following sections apply to this situation:
Section 7.3 If an officer is permanently unable to continue in their capacity, the Executive Committee may appoint an interim officer to fulfill the duties until a candidate is elected by the GCDC voting membership to fill the unexpired term of the vacated office.
Section 7.3 responsibilities were fulfilled with the emergency meeing of May 21, 2026 with the update to the Treasurer’s accounts updated on May 22, 2026. Notification to the GCDC membership was fulfilled with the Newsletter of May 30, 2026. While each interim officer has agreed to fulfill the term of the office to which they have been appointed, the nomination process is now officially open to the GCDC membership. If you are interesed in promoting democracy and serving as a GCDC officer, please complete the nomination form via the button below to be considered for the GCDC office of Secretary and Treasurer. The official election by the voting membership will by conducted at the July 17, 2026 Membership Meeting/Potluck. We hope that you will apply and attend!!

Way to step up
Greene County Democrats!
We are so pleased to announce that not only did we meet the challenge, we SURPASSED it!
To recap, an anonymous donor contacted the Greene Dems Executive Committee with a Matching Donation Challenge. The donor will match dollar-for-dollar ALL donations made between the May 15 Membership Meeting and the June 19 Membership Meeting up to $1,000.00.
After accounting for all donations made during the June 19 Membership meeting and checking the Post Office box one last time, the final tally is:
Donations - $2,371.24
Challenger's match - $1,000.00
Total Success - $3,371.24
Thanks to your generosity, the Greene County Democrats are on our way to building up our coffers in preparation for this year's mid-terms and next year's state and local elections.
July 4th Parade!
WE DID IT!!!
The Greene County Democrats marched in our local 4th of July parade in spite of the heat wave. Our message of unity and patriotism was the brain child of AJ Hodder, our interim treasurer, and it was uniquely successful through its simplicity of symbolism.
Phenominal thanks go to our patriotic symbols:
Mark Heinicke as Uncle Sam - so like the long standing image of Uncle Sam, kids and adults alike were calling out to Uncle Sam along the ENTIRE parade route.
NOTE: the parade organizers asked to take a picture with Mark as he was the only Uncle Sam in the entire parade!
Sara Ratcliffe as Lady Liberty - also the only Lady Liberty in the parade, Sara served to remind folks that ALL should be welcomed to this country.
John Harding, our trumpeter - played a variety of patriotic songs along with the official anthem for each branch of our military. John was the only music that we heard throughout the parade route.
While several of our folks who signed-up to participate had to wisely back out at the last minute due to the heat, we managed to adjust and still carry out our full message of unity with our Pledge of Allegiance sign walkers. Spectacular thanks go to our sandwich sign walkers:
David Vo of the Mark Warner campaign - who drove for two hours Saturday morning just to participate wherever we needed him. We had him lead the sign walkers with the first two signs: "We pledge allegiance to the flag" and "of the United States of America"
Joy Moore - who turned from photographer/helper to sign walker in order to ensure that the full pledge was presented and wore the next two signs: "And to the Republic for which it stands" and "One Nation under God"
Bill James - who wore our "Indivisible" that included the image of a blue and red hand clasped in a "broshake" to help remind people that we are ALL one people who need to work together to resolve our differences and move our country forward.
Sara Ratcliffe - who helped emphasize the "With Liberty and Justice for ALL" part of the message by handling the last sign of the pledge as Lady Liberty.
Driving our two trucks were AJ Hodder with Phyllis Hopkinson riding in truck one and Kelly Harding driving truck two. Handing out candy to the kids were Bill James, Kathryn Doerr, and Lynn Larkin
A special thanks needs to go to Kathy Hodder and her car. Joining the parade train at the last minute, Kathy served as our air conditioned emergency rescue vehicle in the event that any of our folks needed to take respite. In this capacity, Lynn Larkin was assigned to ride with Kathy to ensure that all were safe in the parade.
Be sure to check out the images on our "Event In Pictures" page.
Section 7.4 GCDC members shall be notified of a vacancy in any office within ten (10) business days. Nominations to fill the vacancy will be accepted for thirty (30) days or until the position is filled. The position will be filled at the next GCDC meeting after the close of the nomination period, by a majority vote of a quorum (30%) of Voting Members present at the meeting, as defined in Article XIII.
