Election Day, Nov. 3rd, is fast approaching

We have a lot to do to prepare for what is going to be a very consequential Mid-Term election. This election will determine which direction our country will take. Will we continue a slide into a lawless international pariah where only the politically connected and monied elite will be able to pull the levers of government? Or will we turn back toward a nation based on the Constitution, the Rule of Law, and where everyone can enjoy the same opportunities to pursue their own happiness?

This is an all hands on deck event. And there are a couple of ways you can help ensure a return to a government of, by, and for the people: Get Involved!

Be an Election Observer for the Democratic Party

this coming November 3rd!

Your party needs you as an ‘Authorized Representative’ to be inside the polling station to keep an eye on the election process.

If you are interested in serving this way, please reach out to

Stephanie Hammer: 434-981-5050          or           Ruth Walkup:  803-404-0203

Here is some important information about being an Election Observer:

  • You can be an Observer and a poll greeter during Election Day, by serving one way and then the other.  The roles are very different.

  • We prioritize Observation during times that are the busiest in Greene County:

    • 6-9am

    • 11am-2pm

    • 5pm to closing (usually 7:30/8pm)

  • Observation times are in 3 hour increments. You do not need to serve more than 3 hours.

    • We try to accommodate your service in the polling station you choose.

    • If you would like to Observe more than 3 hours, we welcome you.  This can be at the same polling station, at a different station, or at a different time during the day.

  • You MUST attend one training session IN PERSON before election day.  No exceptions this year.

    • You will learn the Virginia laws governing elections, as well as the ‘dos and don’ts' for Election Observers.

    • You will receive a required letter of introduction for the polling station where you choose to serve.

  • Training days and times are: (*)

    • Monday September 14, 5:30-6:30pm

    • Thursday October 8, 1o-11am

    • Tuesday October 20, 3-4pm

    • All trainings will take place in the meeting room at the Greene County library.

    • * If you cannot attend one of the scheduled trainings, you can still be an Election Observer, but you must meet with either Stephanie or Ruth IN PERSON before Election Day.

  • If you would like to experience Observing before Election Day at the Registrar’s office for early voting, you may if a) you have had the required training and b) you have the signed letter of introduction to the election officials.

  • After Election Day:  We will meet for an Evaluation Meeting to share our observations for a report that must be submitted to the Registrar. This is not a required meeting - but it is informative.

    • Thursday November, 5 @ 2-3pm at the library

If you are interested in serving as an Election Observer or have questions, please reach out to

Stephanie Hammer: 434-981-5050          or           Ruth Walkup:  803-404-0203

The Greene County Democrats

want YOU to be a poll greeter!

We’d like to repeat the phenomenal success we saw when we manned the precincts during the redistricting vote last spring.
This election period will see us at the Registrars office, during early voting, manning one canopy tent. And at each precinct on voting day Nov. 3rd.
We are making calls to marshal our volunteer forces. So when the call comes please consider greeting voters as they come to make their voices heard.
