Now the real fight begins!

Tazewell County Circuit Court Judge Jack Hurley decares all votes for and against the redistricting referendum “ineffective” and bars state officials from certifying the election results or taking any actions to put the new maps into effect.

Attorney General Jay Jones noted in a statement on X, “"Virginia voters have spoken, and an activist judge should not have veto power over the People's vote. We look forward to defending the outcome of last night's election in court."

National Popular Vote Moving Forward

Fall 2025, the Greene County Democrats have invited Matt Butlar and Chris Pearson to speak about this movement to ensure that the Popular vote prevails in a presidential election.  

Governor Spanberger signed the National Popular Vote bill into law on April 13, 2026 making Virginia the 19th jurisdiction to enact the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact into law.
