Here are some facts about Data Centers and Virginia's association with them.

  • Virginia has been identified as the Data Center Capitol of the World with the largest complexes located in Northern Virginia.
  • Data centers can range from a small center building that is 10 acres to a data center campus up to 2,700 acres large.  Fermi America is currently planning a 5,800 acre complex in Texas.
  • Water consumption is of concern as it is the primary and critical cooling agent to address the immense heat generated by the servers housed in the data centers.  Largee individual data centers can consumeup to 5 million gallons of freshwater daily
  • Electricial consumption is of concern as it impacts ALL citizens of Virgina, even those in counties like Greene where a data center doesn't exist...yet.  In Virginia, the current megawatt useage is 6,000+ with a projected usage of 8,857 megawatts once the current construction is completed.
